As you know, one of the qualifying final tournaments of the 2026 Winter Olympics will take place in Riga this year at the end of August and September. The national teams of France and Austria were drawn for the Latvian national team in group E, but they were joined last by the Japanese team, which triumphed in subgroup G of the third qualifying round.
On Sunday in Budapest, the Japanese team beat the home team Hungary with 2:1, before that they also celebrated victories in matches with Lithuania (6:4) and Spain (6:3).
Also, the British hockey players made it to the last round of qualification, who defeated the Chinese national team 10:1 in Cardiff in subgroup H, beat Serbia 11:0 and defeated the Romanians 7:4.
The British national team will play in group F with the hosts Denmark, as well as with the national teams of Norway and Slovenia in the decisive qualifying round.
Meanwhile, Slovakian ice hockey players will play the role of hosts in Group H, which will also face the national teams of Ukraine, Kazakhstan and, provisionally, Belarus.
On Sunday, the Ukrainians beat Estonia 5-3 in the last match of Subgroup J of the third qualifying round, before also celebrating victories over host Poland (3-2 in the shootout) and South Korea (4-0).
Host Italy has already qualified for the 2026 Olympic Games in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo, as well as the hockey teams of Canada, Finland, USA, Russia (provisionally), Germany, Sweden, Switzerland and the Czech Republic.
