Formula 1 | Lewis Hamilton’s defection to Ferrari surprised Fernando Alonso: “It wasn’t his childhood dream”

Sevenfold world champion Lewis Hamilton the sensational defection from the Mercedes-Benz F1 team to Ferrari from the 2025 season was recently confirmed.

Hamilton’s long-time racing partner and former teammate Fernando Alonso42, did not stay Autosport magazine was speechless when asked about the British star’s jump to Ferrari.

After the Ferrari transfer was confirmed, Hamilton, 39, said on Instagram that he now has the opportunity to fulfill one of his childhood dreams, namely racing in Ferrari’s red F1 car.

Alonso intervened in this statement, to put it bluntly.

“It wasn’t his childhood dream 12 months ago, was it? And probably not even two months ago. The dream was different,” Alonso stated according to Autosport.

Current Aston Martin driver Alonso let it be known that Hamilton’s move to Ferrari came as a surprise to him.

“It seemed that his bond with Mercedes was very strong and he was very loyal to them. This (Ferrari move) was a bit of a surprise,” Alonso said.

Hamilton39, has driven his entire F1 career so far in Mercedes-Benz-powered cars, as before his time in the Mercedes factory garage he worked for McLaren, which used Mercedes power sources in those days.

Hamilton and Alonso drove as teammates at McLaren in 2007. The cooperation between the two did not go without problems and at the end of the season, the relationship between the men was already on the decline.

Double world champion Alonso himself raced for Ferrari from 2010 to 2014. The Spanish star won his world championship driving for the Renault team in 2005 and 2006.

Ferrari last won the drivers’ F1 world championship Kimi Raikkonen in the year 2007.
