On Saturday, shortly before 8 p.m., a 38-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman were attacked by an unknown group of young people during Carnival in Reinach. Pepper spray was also involved, the Basel-Landschaft police wrote in a statement on Monday afternoon.
According to the police’s current findings, the two victims were mobbed and attacked by several young people on the carnival grounds on the main street. The two adults were also sprayed with pepper spray. In collaboration with the Basel-Landschaft youth advocate, the police have started investigating the crime.
It is not the first violent confrontation at the Reinach carnival. Shortly after one o’clock on the night from Saturday to Sunday there was an argument between a 23-year-old Swiss and a 31-year-old Algerian. According to the Baselbieter police, the 23-year-old was injured in the wrist and upper arm with a knife. The perpetrator was caught shortly afterwards. Both men were taken to the hospital.
