The body of the six-year-old Palestinian girl who called for help a few days ago after Israeli tanks opened fire on her family’s car has been found

Rescuers from the Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) aid organization in Gaza found the body of the little girl who fled Gaza City at the end of January and then disappeared on Saturday.

Six-year-old Hind Rajab fled the city with her aunt, uncle and three cousins. Not long after, the little girl called the PRCS emergency service on the phone for help, after allegedly Israeli tanks started firing at the family’s car.

The PRCS shared the recording of the little girl’s emergency call a few days ago. Based on this, they made it likely that when the little girl called, she was the only one who remained alive in the car and was hiding from the Israeli forces among the corpses of her relatives. The call of the little girl pleading for help was followed by the sound of more gunshots, and then the line was cut.

The paramedics sent for the little girl told the center in their last check-in that they saw the black Kia in which the family was traveling and also saw the little girl trapped in the car. Their call was also interrupted by the sound of gunshots, and they did not come forward several times, the organization’s spokesperson told the BBC.

Despite this, Rajab’s mother was optimistic for a long time, saying that she was waiting to meet her daughter “at any moment”.

Paramedics from the PRCS finally managed to reach the area, which had previously been sealed off as an active combat zone, only on Saturday. The black Kia car in which Hind was traveling was found with the bodies of the little girl and her relatives inside. The car was covered in bullet marks. The ambulance was also found not far from the car, which was also shot up.

On Saturday, after the bodies were discovered, the girl’s mother told the BBC she was demanding that someone be held accountable. The newspaper has repeatedly contacted the IDF to provide information on its operations that day and the circumstances surrounding the disappearance of Rajab and the ambulance sent for him – the army has promised to investigate the incident.

Israel has previously accused Hamas of using ambulances to transport weapons and fighters.
