UNITED STATES – An unprecedented event in more than 100 years. This is the first time since Theodore Roosevelt in the 1910s that a former president has been called to the stand in his defense. Donald Trump testifies under oath this Monday, November 6, during a civil trial that threatens his .
As you can see in our video at the top of the articlethe former tenant of the White House entered the Manhattan courthouse, a little before 10 a.m., 4 p.m. in Paris, dressed in a navy blue suit and a sky blue tie.
“The American people do not like” this trial
In front of a forest of cameras, he immediately attacked the Attorney General of the State of New York, Letitia James, who is pursuing him. The latter had stated before the start of the trial: “I am sure that he will indulge in insults, taunts and racial attacks, calling this affair a witch hunt,” reports the American channel.
In a first speech, Donald Trump assured that “the (American) people understood, saw and did not like” this civil trial “very unfair”. “They don’t like it because it’s political war”proclaimed the Republican businessman.
With a closed face, he then entered the courtroom and sat on the defense bench surrounded by his lawyers. The former president was sworn in, hands raised, and his questioning by one of Letitia James’ deputies, Kevin Wallace, began.
Charged in four other cases
Attorney General Letitia James, elected Democrat, has filed a civil lawsuit against the staff of the Trump Organization family group. She accuses the Trumps, the father and his sons, of having colossally inflated the assets of the group, made up of a myriad of companies managing skyscrapers, hotels and luxury residences or golf courses around the world. According to her, their goal was to obtain better bank loans and more favorable insurance conditions.
Letitia James is demanding a $250 million fine and bans on running businesses for the Republican billionaire and his children.
This trial is historic, because it has been more than 100 years since a former president had to defend himself on the stand.
