Firefighters fight the water park fire in Gothenburg for the second day: One missing, 16 injured

For the second day, Swedish firefighters are fighting a fire in an under-construction water park in Gothenburg. One employee of the entertainment complex is missing and 16 people have been injured. The cause of the fire that broke out in the Oceana water park in the popular Liseberg entertainment complex in the center of Gothenburg is not yet known.

The complex is currently under construction and should open during the coming summer. “We are deeply saddened by this devastating event. Our primary task now is to assist the police in the search for the missing person and also to provide assistance to all those affected,” said Andreas Andersen, head of Liseberg Park.

The cause of the fire, which caused “complete destruction” of the water park building, is still unknown.

Thick smoke was billowing over the area on Monday. Firefighters urged its residents not to go out, “close windows, doors and turn off ventilation.” The police informed that they evacuated several buildings near the water park, including one hotel.

When completed, Oceana is expected to include an indoor swimming area of ​​almost 6,000 square meters and an outdoor swimming area of ​​4,000 square meters. A restaurant and a hotel are also planned there. The capacity of this water park should be up to 1750 visitors.
