“The Senate foreign aid bill remains silent on the most pressing issue facing our country,” Mike Johnson criticized in a statement, referring to the immigration crisis at the border between the United States and Mexico.
This financial package worth 95 billion dollars, of which the lion’s share would go to Ukraine, has been debated for months in Congress and is the subject of a dispute between Republicans in Congress and the Democratic administration of President Joe Biden.
Republicans demand in exchange for the adoption of aid for Kiev a significant tightening of migration policy. And “in the absence of any change” from the Senate on this issue, “the House of Representatives will continue to work according to its own will on these important issues”, the head of the House of Representatives declared on Monday.
