A narrowly worded invitation to an extraordinary public meeting was published on the website of the Budapest Stock Exchange, the only item on the agenda of which is the recall of the chairman and one member of the board, as well as the election of a new board member and chairman. The board of directors convened the general meeting on December 21, 2023 at 1 p.m., in case the general meeting lacks a quorum, the repeated general meeting with the same agenda and at the same location was announced on January 3, 2024 at 1 p.m., the portal reads.

Mihály Pataithe vice-president of the Magyar Nemzeti Bank, was elected chairman of the board of the BÉT in May 2019, and since then he has been repeatedly confirmed in this position by the general assemblies.

In the recent period, several unconfirmed market rumors appeared in the press, according to which Mihály Patai and György Matolcsy the relationship grew cold between them, as a result of which Patai lost several of his previous positions at the MNB. According to portfolio.hu, it is difficult to reveal exactly what kind of conflict between the two leaders: several people said that Patai publicly raised his voice against György Matolcsy.
