The first lady of Ukraine, Olena Zelenska, told the British weekly Economist that she does not want that her husband Volodymyr Zelenskyy would be president again in the future. The news was also reported by the online newspaper Ukrainska Pravda.
Zelenská declared on the Economist podcast on Friday: “I don’t want him to be president for another term or two.” The Ukrainian first lady is convinced that her husband, and she together with him, should find something new in life. She added that they are both creative enough to come up with some interesting activity.
Journalists from the Economist weekly asked Zelenska how she sees her future and the future of her family after the war. She answered: “Our family will be together again. We will live together, with my husband and children. Still. We will go on vacation somewhere, I don’t know where, but as a group, all four of us. And this vacation will be long – a whole month. And only then will we think, what are we going to do next, he and I.”
Zelenskyi said in October that he is ready to run for the presidency if the elections are held during the war. However, if the war ends, he will not run for office. The head of the Ukrainian president’s office, Andriy Yermak, said at the time that he would like Zelensky to run again.
The people elected Zelensky as the President of Ukraine in April 2019 for a five-year term. The next vote should be held in the spring of 2024. However, Zelenskyy said in early November in a daily video address that it is not the right time for elections in Ukraine. He was reacting to the debate of the leaders of Ukraine on the possibility of holding presidential elections in 2024. “We must recognize that now is the time to defend, the time to fight, on which the fate of this state and people depends,” he explained. And he added: “I am convinced that now is not the right time for elections.”
