Political parties or coalitions can submit candidate lists for the elections to the European Parliament (EP) until midnight on March 10 at the latest. The Ministry of the Interior (MOI) of the Slovak Republic informs about this on its website. Elections to the EP will be held in Slovakia on Saturday, June 8.
“A political party or a coalition can list no more than 15 candidates on the candidate list,” the Ministry of Interior explained. A political party that is registered can submit a list of candidates. The candidate must be submitted to the registrar of the State Commission for Elections and Control of the Financing of Political Parties.
The parties also need to pay an electoral deposit of 1,700 euros. When submitting the candidate form, you must also submit a confirmation of the payment of the deposit.
A Slovak citizen who turns 21 on the day of the election at the latest and has a permanent residence in the Slovak Republic can be elected as an MEP. A citizen of another EU member state who is 21 years old at the latest on the day of the elections, has not been deprived of the right to be elected in the EU member state of which he is a citizen, and has a permanent residence in the Slovak Republic can also be a candidate. You can only run for MEP in the same election in one EU member state.
On June 8, Slovaks will elect 15 MEPs for a five-year term.
